MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville College baseball officially opened its 2026 home season Friday at Scotland Yard, hosting Transylvania University in a doubleheader. The Scots competed throughout the afternoon, but the visiting Pioneers secured a pair of wins, taking game one 4–0 before edging Maryville 4–1 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Transylvania 4, Maryville 0
The opened unfolded as a pitchers' duel through the first five innings. Senior left-hander Kyle Timko gave Maryville a strong start, working 5.1 innings with six strikeouts and allowing just one earned run.
Maryville produced several scoring opportunities early, collecting hits from Det Dettwiller, Masin Hall, and Colin Dunworth, while also drawing five walks. Despite traffic on the bases, the Scots were unable to push a run across.
Transylvania broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning, capitalizing on a defensive miscue before Dillon delivered a three-run home run to right-center to provide the decisive blow.
The Scots went to the bullpen for the final outs, with Logan Denton tossing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits while striking out three.
Game 2: Transylvania 4, Maryville 1
The nightcap followed a similar script early, as Kaden Wimsatt and the Transylvania pitching staff traded scoreless frames through the first two innings. Wimsatt was sharp on the mound, striking out eight over six innings of work.
Transylvania opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run double, then added single runs in the fourth and sixth to build a 4–0 advantage. Maryville's bullpen kept the game within reach, as Logan Ozias and Pete Pappas combined to hold the Pioneers scoreless over the final three innings.
Maryville broke through in the bottom of the eighth inning. Colin Dunworth singled, stole second, and later scored on a wild pitch to put the Scots on the board. The inning also featured a base hit from Luke Winter, but the rally was cut short with two runners left aboard.
Dunworth finished the game reaching base twice, swiping a bag, and scoring Maryville's lone run. Brock Evans, Frank Derner, Jay Pichardo, and Dettwiller each added hits as the Scots totaled seven in the contest.
Maryville will look to build on its competitive home-opening performance as the Scots continue their early-season schedule at Scotland Yard later this weekend.
