Baseball Rallies at Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Maryville College baseball handed Berry its first loss of the season Tuesday afternoon, rallying for a 6–5 road victory with a decisive three-run ninth inning at Berry's home park.

The Scots trailed for much of the afternoon in a tightly contested game before breaking through late. After Berry carried a 5–3 edge into the final frame, Maryville's offense pieced together timely hits and took advantage of opportunities to flip the game in dramatic fashion, plating three runs in the ninth to seize the lead.

Maryville struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Berry answered immediately and built a lead through the middle innings. The Vikings scored in the first, third, and fourth to create separation, while both pitching staffs settled into a rhythm as the game moved along. The Scots chipped away with single runs in the sixth and seventh to keep the pressure on heading into the late innings.

In the ninth, Maryville's lineup showed poise and patience, producing quality at-bats and capitalizing on traffic on the bases. The rally erased the deficit and put the Scots in front for good. From there, the Maryville bullpen shut the door, retiring Berry in order in the bottom of the ninth to secure the upset.

Maryville finished with 11 hits, matching Berry's hit total, while forcing the issue on the bases and in key situations late. Defensively, the Scots made the plays when they mattered most, stranding Berry runners in the late innings to preserve the comeback.

The win marks a statement road victory for Maryville College Scots, knocking off a previously unbeaten Berry Vikings squad and showcasing resilience in a one-run game away from home.

The Scots return to action this weekend against Wittenberg as the they continue their early-season stretch against strong competition.
