MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville College baseball opened its home series against Wittenberg in emphatic fashion, winning the first two games at Scotland Yard before the Tigers salvaged the finale on Sunday. The Scots took two of three from the North Coast Athletic Conference opponent, showcasing offensive depth, strong starting pitching, and timely defense throughout the weekend.
Maryville jumped on Wittenberg early in the series opener, erupting for six runs in the first inning and never looking back in a 12–4 victory on Friday afternoon. The Scots piled up 13 hits and scored in six different innings, highlighted by multi-hit performances throughout the lineup. Hall drove in a pair of runs and scored twice, while Dunworth delivered four RBIs on three doubles. Dettwille added three RBIs of his own as Maryville steadily extended its lead. On the mound, Timko earned the win with seven solid innings, allowing four runs while striking out three, before Pappas closed the door over the final two frames.
The Scots completed the Friday sweep with a 6–1 win in the nightcap, leaning on a complete-game performance from Wimsatt. The right-hander was dominant, scattering seven hits over nine innings while allowing just one unearned run. Offensively, Dettwille provided the big swing with a solo home run, while Hernandez collected three hits and drove in two runs. Maryville capitalized on Wittenberg miscues, scoring five unearned runs and continuing to apply pressure with consistent baserunning and contact hitting.
Wittenberg avoided the sweep on Sunday, rallying late for a 6–3 victory in the series finale. After Maryville plated three runs in the fourth inning to take an early lead, the Tigers used a three-run seventh and a two-run eighth to pull away. Torbett pitched effectively into the seventh for the Scots, allowing just one earned run, but Wittenberg capitalized on defensive miscues to swing momentum. Despite a pair of RBIs from Pichardo and seven hits overall, Maryville was unable to answer late against the Tigers' bullpen.
Maryville finished the weekend with a 2–1 series win, improving its early-season record while facing a strong nonconference test. The Scots showed balance at the plate and depth on the mound, setting the tone as they continue their homestand and build momentum moving forward.
