Baseball Takes Down #4 Lynchburg Hornets

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville College baseball earned one of the biggest victories in program history Tuesday afternoon, defeating No. 4-ranked Lynchburg 8-3 at Scotland Yard.

The Scots wasted no time setting the tone against the nationally ranked Hornets, answering an early Lynchburg run with three in the bottom of the first inning. After Masin Hall singled to start the frame, Brayden Evans followed with a base hit and Colin Dunworth tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Frank Derner and Titus Suggs added RBI singles to give Maryville a 3-1 advantage.

Maryville extended its lead in the second inning when Hall launched a two-run homer to left-center field, scoring Jay Pichardo and pushing the Scots ahead 5-1. The offensive surge continued throughout the afternoon as the Scots piled up 16 hits, with Derner leading the charge by going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a triple. Hall finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Evans and Lucas Mendoza each recorded two hits and drove in a run.

On the mound, Cody Boisvert earned the win, allowing just two runs on four hits over five strong innings while keeping the powerful Lynchburg lineup off balance. Xavier Resto closed the door with four innings of relief, striking out three and allowing just one run to secure the victory.

Maryville added insurance runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, highlighted by an RBI double from Mendoza and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Luke Wright. The Scots' pitching and defense held Lynchburg to seven hits and turned two double plays in the win.

With the victory, Maryville improves to 7-4 on the season and captures a statement win over one of Division III baseball's premier programs.
