TACCOA, Ga. - The Maryville women's golf team battled through difficult conditions at the Currahee Cup this past Monday and Tuesday, ultimately finishing fourth with a team score of 748 (+172) after the tournament's final round was canceled due to weather.
Persistent rain, wind, and challenging course conditions played a significant role throughout the event, impacting play across the field. Tournament officials ultimately made the decision to cancel the third round, leaving scores after 36 holes as final.
Despite the adversity, several players turned in strong efforts. Freshman Charlsie McElhaney led the way for the team, finishing 14th overall with consistent rounds of 88 and 88. Junior Emma Clonan followed, placing 19th after posting rounds of 85 and 96.
Freshman Mallory Higgins also contributed with a 21st-place tie, opening strong with an 85 before battling the worsening conditions in round two.
The Scots showed resilience throughout the tournament, competing through steady rain and difficult course conditions that tested both physical and mental endurance. While the weather ultimately shortened the event, the experience provided valuable competition for a squad continuing to develop this season.
The Scots will look to build on this performance as they prepare for the SAA Preview at the end of this month.
