SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Maryville College women's golf team delivered an impressive performance at the Port City Classic, with every player recording a personal collegiate best during the tournament.
Junior Emma Clonan led the way for Maryville, finishing tied for 5th place. Clonan opened the tournament with a round of 78 before improving to a 77 in the second round. Her strong performance also earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Freshman Mallory Higgins also turned in a solid performance, finishing tied for 13th place. Higgins posted rounds of 81 and 80 across the two days of competition.
Fellow freshman Charlsie McElhaney rounded out the team's scoring with an impressive final round to finish tied for 17th place. After shooting an 84 in the opening round, McElhaney bounced back with a 78 in the second round to secure her top-20 finish.
Head coach Jesse Lawley was proud of the team's effort and the improvements shown throughout the event.
"I am so proud of the girls this week. To come out of the gate and have everyone in the last round of the tournament shoot their personal collegiate best is incredible. It shows the hard work they put in the off-season as well as the first four weeks of the season in the weight room as well as on the golf course. This was highlighted by Emma Cronan's top five finish and earning a spot on the all-tournament team. It's also awesome as a team to have every girl finish in the top 20! We are looking forward to playing next week. We are really excited to see how the rest of the spring season unfolds with the great start to the spring in this event."
The team will be back in action next week as they compete at the Currahee Cup on March 16–17.
