Xavier Resto Leads Scots to Victory Over Berry

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Maryville (11-10) triumphed over Berry (11-8) with a 10-6 victory at Scotland Yard on Tuesday. The Scots dazzled with a stellar offensive display, highlighted by a game-changing five-run seventh inning. With a remarkable 15 hits, far exceeding their season average of 9.61, and four stolen bases, Maryville successfully countered Berry's five doubles and their late three-run burst in the eighth.

The Scots' seventh inning was the turning point, as Masin Hall, a junior outfielder, sparked the rally with a double. Brayden Evans, a senior infielder, followed with an RBI double, bringing Hall home. The momentum continued with Det Dettwiller's single adding another run, and further contributions from Logan Krause, who was hit by a pitch, and Lucas Mendoza, who singled, each driving in runs. Nick Curry's fielder's choice sealed the scoring, as Krause crossed the plate.

Earlier in the game, Maryville set the pace with a commanding four-run second inning. Curry's walk loaded the bases, paving the way for Jay Pichardo's two-run double. Hall then delivered a double down the right-field line, driving in two more and securing an early lead. Despite Berry's efforts in the eighth, Maryville's offense—which outpaced their season average of 5.56 runs per game—held firm.

Berry's late threat was subdued by strategic pitching changes that halted their comeback. Maryville's defense and timely hitting kept Berry at bay, leaving them unable to close the gap in the ninth inning.

On the mound, Xavier Resto, a senior pitcher, delivered 7 1/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Resto faced 29 batters, throwing 88 pitches with 55 strikes, and maintaining a WHIP of 1.13. Pete Pappas took over in relief, dominating with 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits or walks, and efficiently inducing three flyouts and two groundouts on 11 pitches, nine of which were strikes.

Hall shone with two doubles and two RBIs. Dettwiller, a sophomore, was a force with four hits, an RBI, and a stolen base. Pichardo, a junior, added two RBIs, a double, and a stolen base to his standout performance. Krause was pivotal, scoring twice and racking up two RBIs.

Maryville now stands at 11-10 overall and 1-5 in CCS play. Berry holds an 11-8 overall record and is 1-2 in the SAA. The Scots are set to face ETBU in Marshall, Texas, on Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m.
