MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Scots delivered an emphatic 6–0 victory over Sewanee at Scotland Yard on Tuesday. With an explosive offense, Maryville tallied eight hits, including a home run and a triple, while taking advantage of four walks. The Scots scored in five different innings, capitalizing on three critical errors by the Tigers. Maryville's pitching staff was lights-out, allowing just five hits and striking out six batters in a commanding shutout performance. This win boosts Maryville's record, keeping momentum strong in both overall and conference play.
A pivotal moment came in the fifth inning when
Brayden Evans reached base via a Sewanee fielding error.
Det Dettwiller, a standout contributor, followed with a powerful two-run homer to right field, solidifying Maryville's lead. This play was a turning point, setting the rhythm for the remainder of the game.
In the third inning,
Irvin Hernandez sparked the offense with a single up the middle and advanced on a throwing error, setting the stage for
Masin Hall's RBI single. Hall's hit broke the ice and kept the pressure on Sewanee, as productive at-bats from Dettwiller, who was hit by a pitch, and
Frank Derner, who drew a walk, left the bases loaded and the Scots in control.
Defensively, the Scots were rock solid, stifling any attempts by the Tigers to mount a comeback. A critical double play in the eighth inning snuffed out a potential Sewanee rally and showcased Maryville's defensive prowess.
On the mound,
Cody Boisvert was stellar, pitching six innings without surrendering an earned run. Facing 26 batters, he allowed a mere three hits, striking out four and navigating three walks while hitting two batters. Reliever
Xavier Resto contributed two innings of scoreless relief, and
Gavin Mohrman sealed the deal with a perfect ninth inning, fanning two of the three batters he faced.
Masin Hall shone with two hits, one RBI, and a run, along with a stolen base. Dettwiller's impactful performance included a home run, two RBIs, and a stolen base. Hernandez impressed with two hits, including a triple, and drove in one run. Boisvert's dominant outing on the mound underscored the Scots' all-around excellence.
