HIGH POINT, N.C. – Maryville College baseball delivered one of the most dramatic wins of the season Saturday evening, rallying for seven runs in the eighth inning to defeat No. 9 Adrian 12-11 at Truist Point.
The Scots trailed late after Adrian built an 11-5 advantage through seven innings, but Maryville erupted in the eighth with seven runs on seven hits to flip the game. Titus Suggs delivered the biggest swing of the inning, driving a double down the left-field line that cleared the bases and cut the deficit to 11-9. Moments later, Brayden Evans followed with an RBI single before Frank Derner tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Nick Curry capped the comeback with an RBI single that gave the Scots a 12-11 lead.
Curry had a huge day at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs to pace Maryville's 13-hit attack. Evans reached base six times, going 2-for-2 with four walks, two runs scored and an RBI. Masin Hall added two hits and two runs scored, while Suggs drove in three runs with his key eighth-inning double.
Maryville initially took control in the fifth inning when Curry launched a three-run homer to put the Scots ahead 5-3. Adrian answered immediately with five runs in the bottom half to reclaim the lead and later extended the margin to six runs before the Scots' late rally.
On the mound, Gavin Mohrman earned the win with three innings of relief, allowing one run while striking out four to close out the final frames. Starter Kyle Timko and Pete Pappas also saw time on the mound for Maryville.
With the win, Maryville improved to 8-5 on the season and picked up its second victory of the week over a nationally ranked opponent.
MC will face Greensboro to cap off the Triad Invite at 3:00 on Sunday.
