Scots Split Saturday Slate

WILMORE, Ky. - Maryville baseball split a CCS doubleheader at Asbury on Saturday, overpowering the Eagles 13-1 in the opener before dropping the nightcap 8-6 at Cecil Zweifel Field.

The Scots came out swinging in Game 1, erupting for eight runs over the first two innings and never looking back. Maryville scored once in the first, then broke the game open with a seven-run second inning to seize full control. Logan Krause led the offensive barrage, going 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. Brayden Evans added two hits, three RBIs and two stolen bases, while Masin Hall collected two hits and scored once.

Maryville finished with 13 runs on 13 hits and drew plenty of traffic on the bases with four walks and seven hit batters. Colin Dunworth drove in two runs, and multiple Scots crossed the plate twice in the lopsided win.

On the mound, Maryville was dominant. Scots pitching limited Asbury to just one run on nine hits while striking out five over seven innings in the run-rule shortened contest. The defense backed it up with a clean game in the field.

Game 2 was a different story, as Asbury answered with an 8-6 win to earn the split. Maryville totaled 11 hits and scored in four different innings, but the Eagles capitalized on three Scots errors and steady offense to pull ahead.

Colin Dunworth paced the Scots in the second game, finishing 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Frank Derner added a hit and three RBIs, while Hall, Evans and Det Dettwiller each had two hits. Despite the balanced attack, Maryville stranded eight runners and couldn't fully erase the deficit late.

With the split, Maryville moved to 21-11 overall and 6-6 in CCS play. Asbury won the second game after falling to the Scots in dominant fashion earlier in the day.
