MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Maryville's women's tennis competed at the CCS Tournament starting on April 23rd in hopes to keep their season alive and head to the NCAA championship. Despite some great tennis and positive momentum, the Scots fell in the semi-finals, ending their season with a 9-8 record.
Their postseason got off to a strong start against Agnes Scott College on April 23rd. In doubles, both #1 pair Calliana Kondolios and McKena Spencer and #2 pair Maggie Hackney and Clara Plass dominated their matches, blanking their opponents 6-0 in both to clinch the doubles point quickly for the Scots. In singles, Hackney was the first to finish her match, playing at the #5 position and again blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to put the Scots up 2-0. Quickly after that, Jasmine Muecke, playing at the #4 position, continued the trend of not letting the opponent get a single game, winning her match 6-0, 6-0 and setting the clinch up for the Scots. To finish the match, Plass, playing at #3, steamrolled her opponent, winning 6-0, 6-0 and sending the Scots through without dropping a single game in the clinching matches.
Their next match proved to be more difficult, facing off against Asbury University in the semi-finals. In their last match against the Eagles, the Scots fell 2-5, but were looking to change the tide in this encounter.
Doubles was a swift win for the Eagles, with the Scots losing at #1 and #2 relatively quickly. Muecke and Josie McRae were winning their match 4-1 at the #3 position before their contest had to be abandoned. Singles had a lot more fight, however, with Hackney and McRae winning their first sets, and Plass losing a tightly contested first set 5-7. Hackney drew a point on the board for the Scots, taking the score to 1-2, with a 6-2, 6-1 scoreline at #5 singles, but not before Kondolios fell at #2. After Spencer fell at #1, Asbury had 3 opportunities to convert their clinching opportunity, and did so at #4, with Muecke falling to the CCS Tournament MVP.
That match concluded the season for the Scots, but not before some members of the team were recognized for their outstanding performances. Spencer and Plass both were recognized by the CCS, making the All-Conference Second Team in their first years, along with Plass making the All-Conference Sportsmanship Team, showcasing the great year that both of them had. To top it off, Hackney made the CCS All-Tournament Team, being recognized for her stellar performances throughout the duration of the conference tournament; dropping only three total games over the course of two singles matches and putting two points on the board for the Scots.
Maryville finished their last year in the CCS with a record of 9-8, including a 6-3 record within the conference. Starting in the 2026-27 season, the Scots will compete in the Southern Athletic Association.
