SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Maryville Scots powered through with a 9–5 triumph over Sewanee on Tuesday, courtesy of a five-run second inning. The Scots took advantage of 10 walks and three stolen bases to notch their third consecutive game with at least nine runs. Though Sewanee tried to rally with a seventh-inning home run, Maryville's steady scoring kept them on top.
Maryville surged ahead as
Frank Derner sparked the second-inning rally with a leadoff double. Walks to
Colin Dunworth and
Logan Krause set the stage for
Lucas Mendoza, who chipped in with a sacrifice fly to bring in the first run. A flurry of wild pitches and a crucial throwing error saw
Jay Pichardo, Dunworth, and Krause score, with
Masin Hall stealing a base and later crossing home on
Brayden Evans' RBI single. Hall's patience was unmatched, as he drew four walks, setting a season-high.
The Scots kept pressing in the third inning. Dunworth singled, stole second, and after advancing on a flyout, scored on Mendoza's RBI single. Despite Sewanee's seventh-inning two-run homer, the Scots held firm. In the eighth,
Det Dettwiller's RBI double widened the lead, and his consistent performance marked his third straight game with at least two hits and two RBIs.
Cody Boisvert delivered 6 2/3 innings on the mound, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts. He tallied a season-high 98 pitches, 57 for strikes.
Xavier Resto's relief work over 2 1/3 innings, striking out two and allowing no runs on three hits, was instrumental in preserving the Scots' lead.
Masin Hall continues his streak of scoring at least two runs for the fourth consecutive game.
Det Dettwiller contributed with two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Derner added two hits and an RBI, scoring once.
The Scots, now standing at 19-10 overall and 4-5 in the conference, are preparing to face Asbury on Friday, April 10, at 6 p.m. in Wilmore, Ky.
