PEARL, Miss. – Maryville secured a 6-2 victory over LaGrange at Trustmark Park during the CCS Quarterfinal Game. The Scots tallied six runs on 11 hits, including a decisive three-run eighth inning.
MC broke the game open in the eighth inning with a sequence of crucial plays.
Colin Dunworth led off with a triple, and
Logan Krause reached on an error, driving in Dunworth.
Irvin Hernandez followed with a single, advancing Krause to third, who later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Jay Pichardo. Hernandez capitalized on a wild pitch to score as well.
Earlier, Maryville took control in the fifth inning, sparked by a
Brayden Evans RBI single that brought home
Jay Pichardo.
Det Dettwiller reached on an error, enabling Evans to score a run, giving the Scots a two-run advantage. The Panthers managed to narrow the gap with runs in the sixth and seventh innings, highlighted by Nicholas Ford and Tanner Morneau's RBIs.
Despite LaGrange's late attempts to rally, their final threat in the ninth inning was thwarted when
Xavier Resto struck out the final LaGrange batters with runners on base, preserving the win. The game concluded with the Scots earning a 6-2 win, advancing to the semifinal against Piedmont, scheduled for tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
Brayden Evans led the offense with three hits and one RBI, scoring once.
Logan Krause contributed significantly by recording two hits, including a double, and scoring twice. On the mound,
Kyle Timko pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three, securing the win with a 7-3 record.
Xavier Resto closed the game effectively, earning the save with 2 2/3 innings pitched and three strikeouts.
