LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Maryville College rallied late to earn a 2-2 draw against Covenant Wednesday night, with the Scots finding the equalizer in the 84th minute to cap a dramatic finish.
The Scots, who moved to 2-1-3 on the season, fell behind twice but answered each Covenant goal, including a late strike from Regan Boyd that pulled Maryville even with just over six minutes remaining.
Covenant opened the scoring in the sixth minute when
Lila Wiley found the back of the net off an assist from Georgie
Strawbridge.
Maryville responded in the 31st minute.
Ellie Schuld converted a penalty kick at the 30:26 mark to bring the Scots level at 1-1.
Covenant regained the advantage just before halftime, with
Oli Conrad scoring in the 45th minute off assists from Abby Heupel and AT Simon. Covenant carried a 2-1 lead into the break.
With time winding down, Maryville continued to pressure the Covenant defense. The Scots earned a corner kick in the 83rd minute, setting up the game's decisive sequence.
Just 42 seconds later,
Lexi Maciejewski put a shot toward goal before
Boyd finished the opportunity at
83:38, beating the Covenant defense to tie the match at 2-2.
The Scots continued to push following the equalizer, with
Katie Cotten forcing a save less than two minutes later. Covenant managed one final opportunity in the closing seconds, but Maryville goalkeeper
Trinity Atkinson turned away a shot from Tess Duble at 89:45 to preserve the draw.
Maryville finished the night with
17 shots, including nine on goal, while Atkinson recorded four saves. Covenant held a 22-17 advantage in shots, but the Scots' late pressure ultimately secured the 2-2 result.
