LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Maryville College women's soccer scored twice in a four-minute span early in the second half to earn a 2-0 shutout victory over Spalding University Wednesday evening at Legacy Fields.

After a scoreless first half, the Scots broke through in the 49th minute when Regan Boyd found the back of the net thanks to an assist by Kaylee Mills, her first of the year, at the 48:44 mark to give Maryville a 1-0 advantage.

Just 28 seconds later, Maryville doubled its lead. Katie Cotten scored her fifth goal of the season at 49:12, with Mills providing the assist again.

Maryville controlled play throughout the second half, finishing the match with a 21-5 advantage in shots, including an 18-2 edge after halftime. The Scots also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Cotten led the Scots with six shots, including three on goal, while Boyd recorded two shots and scored her fourth goal of the season. Mills added two shots and an assist.

Emma Zegers made two saves to record her second shutout of the season, as the Maryville defense limited Spalding to just two shots on goal.

Maryville improves to 3-1-3 on the season, while Spalding falls to 2-4-1. Next up for the Scots is a trip to Piedmont this Sunday at 5:00 PM.
