Box Score Maryville College let a 2-0 half time lead slip away as they managed only a tie on the road at Ferrum College on Wednesday evening.
In the 15th minute of play the Scots got on the board when Patrick Braxton scored. Maryville would add the second goal of the contest with only twelve seconds remaining in the first half when Adam Spannbauer found the back of the net with the help of Joe Pinkston and Alex Waddell. However, a 2-0 halftime lead would not be enough on the evening.
Ferrum added goals in the 68th and 73rd minutes of play to take the game to overtime. Maryville outshot Ferrum 20-17 on the evening including 3-0 in the second overtime. However, the Scots were not able to score the deciding goal.
"We played well tonight and finally scored a couple badly needed goals," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "Unfortunately, we let one slip away here tonight."
The tie brings the Scots to 4-10-3 overall and 2-4-2 in USA South action. Maryville now will travel to Methodist University for the first round of the USA South Tournament. The Scots will visit the Monarchs with game time set for 2:30 pm on Saturday.
