The Maryville College softball team could not get in the win column during a USA South road swing through Greensboro, North Carolina to challenge Greensboro College. The Pride shut out the Scots 2-0 in the first game before defeating MC 9-1 in the series finale.
In the opener, Maryville's Lexie Randolph surrendered a two out single to centerfield scoring a pair of Pride runs in the first inning. She promptly shut out Greensboro over the next five innings, but MC could not get on the scoreboard after a pair of Pride hurlers combined to three-hit the Scots' bats. Kalyn Jones, Jennie Burks, and Randloph were the only Scots to reach base safely during the 2-0 league shutout.
Maryville waisted little time getting on the scoreboard in the second challenge. In their first at-bat Hannah Youngdeer singled to rightfield scoring Megan Mihaliak who led off the game with a single. Greensboro answered in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs on an RBI single and a bases loaded walk. After the first inning the Pride outpaced MC 2-1. Greensboro promptly added seven runs over the next five innings to end the run-ruled Pride victory in six innings. Lexie Randloph added Maryville's only additional hit after the first inning. Greensboro capitalized on 15 MC walks and a nine hit attack that sent them to 12-5 on the season and 6-0 all alone in first place in the USA South standings.
The Scots (0-18, 0-6 USA South) will return home to host USA South foe Methodist University in a double header beginning at noon on Sunday.
