Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team battled back for a tough USA road victory over William Peace University by the score of 72-63 on Friday evening in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Pacers held a 35-32 advantage going into the second half. As Maryville struggled through foul trouble, the host expanded their lead to 55-45 with only ten minutes left in the game. The Scots stormed back with a 12-2 run in the next five minutes to even the score and closed out the contest with a 15-6 run to claim the league win.
Maryville out rebounded Peace 42-32 while also eclipsing their shooting effort from the floor.
The Scots (12-3, 5-1 USA South) claimed their fourth consecutive win with a 26 point effort by Mackenzie Puckett. The sophomore connected on 10-of-12 shots while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Puckett also paced MC on the boards with a team-high 13 rebounds. Jordan Ballard and Kelsey Brown also crashed the boards with seven and six rebounds respectively. Brown went 5-for-7 from the field for a dozen points while Lailah Farmer also tossed in 12 points to go along with her seven assists. Lauren Burnet deposited a pair of treys en route to a 12-point performance.
"This was a great comeback win for our squad," stated MC Head Coach Darrin Travillian. "We played through some foul issues and breakdowns making just enough defensive stops in the end to secure the win."
William Peace falls to 0-9 on the season and 0-3 in USA South challenges.
Maryville will continue their North Carolina league swing on Saturday with a 2:00 tip-off at North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount.
