Box Score The Maryville College Lady Scots basketball team concluded their USA South weekend swing through North Carolina on Saturday with an 80-33 win over Mary Baldwin College.
The Scots held the Fighting Squirrels to only 10 first half points and maintained consistent defense pressure to force 27 turnovers while allowing only a 37% shooting effort by their league host.
Maryville connected on over 43% of their shots from the floor while senior Lauren Burnett found her perimeter range hitting 4-of-5 shots from beyond the arc. Burnett paced the Scots with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Kelsey Brown and Jordan Ballard combined for an 8-for-14 shooting effort with each finishing with nine points. Linley Dunn and Lecretia Robbins each added eight points. Mindy Brackins led MC on the boards with eight rebounds while Brown added seven. The Scots out rebounded Mary Baldwin 45-27 with an amazing total of 20 offensive boards.
"We had an excellent defensive effort and commitment to rebounding today," stated MC Head Coach Darrin Travillian. "I was very pleased to see contributions coming from everyone on the roster."
Mary Baldwin falls to 0-13 on the season and 0-7 in USA South challenges.
The Scots (15-3, 8-1 USA South) will put their seven game win streak to the test next weekend when they host rival Piedmont College on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium. Make plans to come to the Cooper Athletic Center to cheer on both MC basketball programs.
