Box Score The Maryville College men's soccer team used a seven shot first half that resulted in a pair of goals to cruise to a 3-1 USA South victory over Ferrum College on Friday evening on MC's campus.
With just over five minutes run off the clock, Maryville's Conner McCarty connected on a long cross from the right side of the field to a streaking Payne Fisher. Fisher connected on a header for his seventh goal of the season and the first of the afternoon for the Scots.
McCarty was not done serving up goals for the Scots. At the 17:33 mark, the junior then found Cody VanKerschaever on a long pitch right down the middle of the field. VanKerschaever dribbled through traffic and deposited a left-footer past the keeper for his second collegiate goal. At the half Maryville led 2-0.
Ferrum cut the lead in half with Keith Ricks' 8th goal of the season off a Roberto Cardoso assist at the 53:29 mark, but the Scots answered to put the game out of reach in the 75th minute when Randy Reichenburger found Hayden Puryear for his fifth goal of the season to make the final score 3-1.
The Panthers fell to 4-11-2 overall and 2-6-2 within the USA South with the loss. Maryville advances to 10-4-1 overall and 6-2-1 within the league. The Scots will host Greensboro on Saturday for their final home match beginning at 2:00.
