Box Score The Maryville College Lady Scots closed out the regular season with a strong 4-0 shutout victory over USA South foe Greensboro College on Saturday as they also celebrated "Senior Day".
As the clock had just ran off its first minute Maryville's Kirsten Alcorn took a ball on the right side and crossed it to Sierra Siegel. The junior promptly deposited her 18th goal into the back of the net to give the Scots an early 1-0 lead.
Alcorn was responsible for the Scots next goal at the 20th minute. Deep along the baseline, Alcorn hit another crossing pass. This time confusion ensued in front of the net and an own goal was scored for the Scots. At the half Maryville had earned a 2-0 lead after only out shooting the Pride 3-1.
The Scots came out strong in the second half posting 11 shots to Greensboro's four. MC's third goal came when substitute Jordyn Lee entered the game and in less than 30-seconds planted a shot into the back of the net unassisted. Her goal at the 59th minute mark was her third goal of the season.
Maryville's final goal came in the 64th minute when Monica Besbris had a few open looks for shots, but dished an assist to Lizzy Simmons for her seventh goal of the season.
With the win Maryville advances to 11-6-1 overall and 9-2-1 within the USA South. Greensboro falls to 8-7-1 overall and 6-4-1 in league challenges. Coach Fernandez and his squad will anxiously await the seeding for the 2014 USA South Championships that will begin on November 1st.
