Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team used a huge bench effort — 33 points — to earn their third victory of the season.
Lauren Trent came off the bench, bucketing 21 points for Maryville on 7-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc in an 80-61 win inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
The Scots jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead over the Eagles within the first five minutes, as true freshman, Rachel Hawn raked in four points and seven rebounds. Maryville extended that lead to 21-6 with 11:26 remaining on the clock, but Emory would not go away.
The Eagles bounced back with a 15-0 run to knot the score at 21-all with 5:35 remaining. The Scots would never lose the lead, however, as Mackenzie Puckett broke a 6:49 silence from Maryville, finding a slashing bucket.
After a back-and-forth first half, Trent led the Scots on an 11-4 run — depositing three treys within the final 3:23 of the half — to take a 36-29 lead to the locker room. It was a lead they would not relinquish.
Maryville shot 47.5 percent from the field, while bucketing 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from beyond the arc. Emory could only muster a 9.1 percent (1-of-11) outing from long range, while shooting 40 percent from the field.
After not having a free-throw attempt in the first half, Maryville hit 13-of-19 in the second half to extend their lead. The Eagles posted 44.4 percent from the charity stripe, shooting just 12-of-27.
Trent led all scorers with her 21-point outing, while Alex Bond added 18 points, six assists and three rebounds. Jordan Ballard added 10 points and five assists, as Maryville posted 21 assists in the game.
Puckett had nine points, five assists and five rebounds, while Hawn added eight points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Haley Talbott had six points; Lauren Biliter, four, Joanna Young, two, and Linley Dunn, two.
Emory was led by an 18-point day by Khadijah Sayyid as she neared a double-double with eight rebounds. Dumebi Egbuna added 11 points off the bench as the Eagle's only two double-digit scorers.
Emory falls to 3-2 on the season after losing the past two contests.
Maryville advanced to 3-1, as they travel to Raleigh, N.C. to face Salem College on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
