Box Score The No. 18 Maryville College Scots continued their winning ways, matching the school's second-longest win streak with a 71-58 victory over Piedmont College.
The 13-point triumph marks Maryville's 16th-straight win for the season, tying the second-longest mark set in 2010-11. This season's Scots rank only five wins away from breaking the school's historic streak of 20 wins in a row set in 1993-94.
Each of the previous two streaks ended in the NCAA National Tournament.
"Great win today against an excellent Piedmont team," Head Coach Darrin Travillian said. "I was pleased with our defensive effort and our effort on the boards in the second half. Obviously, we were efficient offensively, and the point distribution and assists speak to our unselfishness and shot selection."
Maryville struck fast, using a 48.5 percent first half to jump to a 39-32 halftime advantaged of their USA South Southern Division foe. The Scots converted 14 points off 14 Piedmont turnovers, while shooting 45.8 percent for the contest.
The victory moves Maryville to a 17-1 start on the year, falling only to No. 2 ranked Thomas More earlier this season. The Orange and Garnet remains the only school in the USA South to have an unblemished conference record – in both men's and women's basketball.
Maryville was led by Mackenzie Puckett's 17-point, seven-rebound effort, while the standout posted three steals, an assist and a block.
