Scots advance to USA South semi-finals behind 6-0 win over Greensboro

Box Score

The Maryville College women's soccer program advanced to the USA South Athletic Conference semi-finals with a 6-0 victory over Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon.

At the 4:34 mark, Maryville's Natasha Enrique found Kirsten Alcorn with a heal flick inside the box and the sophomore from Cookeville placed a header past the Pride keeper. Only a minute later, Enrique hit the back of the net off an Allyson Hale assist for her 5th goal of the season.

Leading 2-0, the Scots' Allyson Hale blasted a shot that keeper Brittany turned away, but senior Sierra Siegel collected the rebound to place her 11th goal of the season giving MC a commanding 3-0 lead before the half.

At the intermission Maryville out shot Greensboro 11-1 with attacks on goal.

Maryville's stingy defense led by Mackenzie Hutton, Eleni Mavres, Rachel Leal, Casey Gentile, Miranda Lukas, Erin Persinger, and Caitlin Kenney held the Pride to only a pair of shots during the league tournament challenge. Rachel Taylor and Mandy Marshall earned the shared shutout in goal for the Scots.

MC continued their scoring in the second half when Siegel had one of her five shots on goal blocked, but fellow senior Lizzy Simmons took the rebound and deposited her 6th goal of the season.

The Scots expanded their lead to 5-0 when Monica Besbris found Sarah Jeffreys at the 78-minute mark.

Maryville put their final touches on the home victory when Mackenzie Yaksic hauled in a Grace Puryear pass and placed a beautiful header for her first collegiate goal.

The loss ends Greensboro's season at 10-8-1. Maryville (13-3-2) will advance to the semi-finals against Piedmont College, who defeated NC Wesleyan 2-0. The tournament will be at No.1 seeded Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina who defeated Ferrum College 1-0 on Saturday.
