Box Score The Maryville College diamondmen claimed the series at Huntingdon College with a 7-3 victory over the Hawks in a three-game USA South series in Montgomery, Alabama on Sunday afternoon.
The Scots capitalized on a pair of first inning errors to plate four runs in their first at bat. Following a pair of Huntingdon miscues MC's Chris Ervin sent Logan Jenkins home with a fielder's choice RBI. A John McDermott single to right field sent Nick Dean home and Greg Vourloumis stroked an RBI single through the left side to make the score 3-0. Catcher Evan Ezell finished the scoring with an RBI single to left field scoring McDermott.
The 4-0 lead gave MC starting pitcher Lawson Wishard a great deal of confidence. The lefty tossed 6.1 inning allowing only a pair of hits and not allowing an earned run to earn the mound victory.
Huntingdon's only run off Wishard came in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by the Hawk's Alec Raley.
MC added an insurance run in the seventh when Nick Dean singled and Vourloumis sent a sacrifice fly towards left field later scoring Dean.
With a 5-1 lead, Maryville tacked on a pair of runs in the ninth. A pair of sacrifice flys by Vourloumis and Sam Jokerst made the score 7-1.
The Hawks attempted a late rally off MC reliever Jerod Dickey. A pair of errors allowed Anthony Spivey to place a two-RBI single to right center field but Dickey closed the door to preserve the hard fought road win. Dickey tossed 2.2 innings allowing only two hits and no earned runs.
Huntingdon (4-2, 4-2 USA South) had four hits on the afternoon. Alec Raley and Anthony Spivey each collected a pair of hits for the Hawks. Scott Robertson suffered the loss allowing four hits and four runs in his first and only inning of work.
Maryville (3-4, 2-4 USA South) pounded out 13 hits at the plate. Evan Ezell went 4-for-5 with an RBI. Zack Blonder and John McDermott each added a pair of hits.
The Scots will prepare for a home non-conference challenge against Centre College on Wednesday. First pitch on MC's Scotland Yard is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
