DePauw, No. 21 Washington-St. Louis too much in final day of Rhodes Tournament

The Maryville College Scots couldn't find their offensive power in the final day of the Rhodes Tournament in Memphis,  Tenn., dropping two games on Sunday afternoon.

Maryville fell in the first game of the day, 2-0, to an undefeated DePauw team, before falling 12-0 in a rematch against Washington-St. Louis.

In the Scots' first game of the day, DePauw used a two-run third inning for the only scores of the game. Julia Waggoner singled to third, before stealing second. A sacrifice got her to third, before Morgan McCord singled to third for an RBI. McCord stole second and third, before scoring on a throwing error.

Maryville was led in the game by Tiffany Brand and Kalyn Jones, who each went 1-for-3 with doubles. Megan Mihaliak and Jennie Burks both also finished 1-for-3 in the game.

For DePauw, it was Wggoner that led the way, going 2-for-3 with one run scored. McCord was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Lexie Randolph was credited with the loss in the circle (0-2), while pitching seven innings. She allowed only five hits and one earned run, while striking out five.

In the evening's final game, the Maryville struggled against Preseason No. 21 Washington-St. Louis. The Bears struck fast, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings, before taking the win, 12-0.

The Scots gave up 14 hits in the contest, while committing six errors. Maryville's only hit of the contest came from Caitlyn Hogg who singled in the bottom of the first inning. She was 1-for-1 in the game to lead Maryville, while Washington-St. Louis gave up three walks in the game.

The Bears were led by Janet Taylor's 2-for-2 day, while she blasted four RBIs. Brooke Hofer was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Kenzie James went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Leadoff hitter Paige Biles had a complete day, going 2-for-3 with a walk and four runs scored.

Rachel Taylor was credited with the loss (1-1), while striking out one. Annie Pitkin (1-0) took the win, allowing only one hit, while striking out four.

Maryville falls to 1-3 on the young season, as they look toward their home opener. The Scots will host Berry College on Sunday, Feb. 15, in a double-header. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
