Box Score 2 Maryville College's Cydnee Morrisette gave the Scots a much-needed spark in the bottom of the seventh inning, as she blasted a two-run shot to left field to avoid a sweep by the Huntingdon Hawks.
Morrisette's homer knotted the game at two-all, before Maryville was able to capitalize in the bottom of the eighth for the 3-2 win over Huntingdon. The Scots fell in the first game, 2-1.
Megan Mihaliak found a walk-off RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the victory for the Scots.
Maryville's Lexie Randolph picked up the victory in the second game, pitching eight complete innings from the circle. She moves to 3-4 on the season, as she allowed only two hits while striking out 10.
Huntingdon College (10-10, 5-5 USA South) struck early in the top of the first, making a run with two outs. Heather McGuirk laced a double to left-center, before Lindsay Selph matched the feat to score McGuirk. Tiffany Taylor used an RBI double to right-center to score Selph, as the Hawks led 2-0.
Rachel Taylor helped to save runs during the top of the second, as the Hawks had loaded the bases behind a single and two walks. Taylor snagged a liner from Gabby Alcantar, picking off Daisha Henderson for the unassisted double play to get out of the inning with a 2-0 score.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Scots would find some momentum as Caitlyn Hogg found her fifth home run of the 2015 season. Hogg's homer cut the deficit to one, 2-1, going to the top of the sixth – a lead the Hawks wouldn't relinquish.
The Scots (5-11, 4-6) were led by Megan Mihaliak who went 2-for-3, while Hogg was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Tiffany Brand, Kazdyn Cooper and Rachel Taylor also went 1-for-3 on the day, as Maryville posted six hits.
Huntingdon's seven-hit attack was led by Selph who was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Taylor was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
In the day's second game, Huntingdon again found the plate first. In the top of the second, the Hawks had two runners on after walks. Jesse Dunn sacrificed both runners over, before Brandi Blair found the RBI with a dribbler back to the pitcher for a 1-0 lead.
An error in the top of the fourth helped the Hawks to score again. Dunn found and RBI double to right center, scoring Selph from second base.
Cydnee Morrisette sent the game to extra innings in the bottom of the seventh for the Scots. Rachel Taylor reached on a single to left field, before Morrisette laced a two-run shot to left field. The Scots and the Hawks went to extras with the score knotted at 2-all.
In the bottom of the eight, Maryville found the score they needed, as Jessica McMahan was placed on second per extra inning rules. Hogg singled to center field to move McMahan to third, before Mihaliak matched suit to score McMahan from third for a 3-2 Maryville win.
Morrisette led the way in the second game, going 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Taylor and McMahan were each 1-for-3 with runs scored, while Hogg finished 1-for-2.
Maryville will host Salem College tomorrow, Sunday, March 22, for a double header. First pitch is slated for noon.
