Box Score Maryville College picked up its 10th win of the season behind a 12-6 non-conference win over Transylvania University on Thursday afternoon.
The Scots compiled a 17-hit attack after falling behind 4-0 in the first inning to the Pioneers, before going on an 8-0 streak to take the win.
Transylvania hung four runs on the Scots in to top of the first inning, capitalizing on a Maryville error. Shelby Bailey scored after Katie Hulsman reached on a fielding error. Elizabeth Young singled to the left field wall, scoring Hulsman and Rhyan Disser, before a Jamie Lutes single to left scored Young. The four unearned runs gave the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.
Maryville's Caitlyn Hogg returned the favor, just two pitches into the bottom of the first. She slammed a solo home run 275 feet, dropping it past the Maryville scoreboard in left field. The Scots loaded the bases behind back-to-back singles from Tiffany Brand and Megan Mihaliak, before a Cydnee Morrisette walk. Starting pitcher Rachel Taylor cleared the bags with a three-RBI double to left, as Maryville knotted the game a 4-all.
An error proved costly for the Pioneers in the bottom of the second. Jessica McMahan reached on a sacrifice bunt error, allowing Savannah Cook to score from second. Brand used a hard single to the shortstop to score Hogg, before Morrisette singled to center, scoring Brand from third. Taylor found her fourth RBI of the day, scoring pinch runner Melissa Frease with a single up the middle. The Scots led 8-4 after two innings.
Lutes singled to the shortstop to score Young from third, before an RBI single to right-center by Jessica Koors pulled the Pioneers to within two. Going to the bottom of the third, Maryville led 8-6.
McMahan singled past second base, as the Pioneers were pinching for a bunt. She stole second, before Brand's singled down the left field line score McMahan for a 9-6 Maryville lead.
Taylor used a two-out single to left-center, as Emilie Craven came on to run in the bottom of the sixth. Burks singled up the middle to move Craven to third, before a double steal scored Craven. Cook singled to right-center to score Burks from second, before Hogg reached on an error by center to allow Cook to score from first. Going to the seventh, giving the Scots a 12-6 win.
Maryville's 17-hit attack was led by Taylor, as she finished the day with a 4-for-4 effort, pushing around four RBIs for the Scots (10-19). Hogg was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Brand went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Transylvania (11-11) saw Young go 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Hulsman and Lutes also went 2-for-4, as Hulsman scored two runs and Lutes had two RBIs.
Game two of the day was halted in the bottom of the fourth inning, resulting in a no-contest, as darkness fell on the field. The Pioneers led 7-4 at the time.
Maryville will travel to LaGrange, Ga. for a USA South Conference game tomorrow, April 4. First pitch is slated for noon.
