Strong second half send Scots past Ferrum 3-1

Box Score

The Maryville College men's soccer team rallied with a strong second half to earn a 3-1 win over Ferrum College in Ferrum, Virginia on Thursday evening.

The match was moved up a day to avoid poor weather anticipated in the area on Friday.

The Panthers took an early 1-0 lead at the 17:05 mark when Alex Armstrong sent a line drive pass to Jae White and he hit the back of the net with a header past MC keeper Jon Taylor.

Down 1-0, Maryville's Caleb Lucas attacked with one of his four shots on the evening connecting with the equalizer at the 49-minute mark.

Twenty-five minutes later with the Scots out shooting the Panthers 17-5, MC's George Davies slipped the game-winner past Ferrum keeper Joe Martin.

Just before the final ten-minutes, Lucas found Tim Baker streaking towards the net to make the final score 3-1.

The victory makes Maryville 6-1-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in USA South play. Ferrum falls to 3-5 overall and 2-1 within the USA South.

The Scots will now prepare for another tough USA South road challenge on Monday when they travel to William Peace University.
