Box Score A slow third quarter for the Scots proved costly on Saturday evening, as the Emory University Eagles handed Maryville its second loss of the season, 59-51.
After leading 24-21 at the break, Maryville could only muster eight third-quarter points – six of those coming from Lauren Biliter – as the Eagles regained the lead for good, 39-32. Emory put together a 13-0 run to end the third stanza, as Maryville went cold.
The Scots shot just 21.4 percent from the field during the quarter, bucketing 3-of-14 shots. They shot 1-of-6 (16.7 percent) from beyond the arc. Emory posted 18 points in the third stanza, while posting a 3-for-3 effort from long range.
For Maryville (8-2), it was Lauren Biliter that led the way with a career high 19 points. She had three rebounds and an assist.
Rachel Hawn had eight points, while pulling down six boards, as Mackenzie Puckett tallied seven points and seven rebounds. Allyson Freiermuth had six points and six rebounds, as Joanna Young had four points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Abby Navarro had four points, three rebounds and three assists, as Brittany Johnson had three points on 1-of-1 shooting from beyond the 3-point line.
Maryville shot 30.2 percent (19-or-63) from the field, while hitting just 7-of-26 treys.
For Emory (8-2), it was Khadijah Sayyid that led the way with 17 points. Shellie Kaniut had 14 points, while Dumebi Egbuna had a game-high 10 rebounds. Ilene Tsao had four assists for the Eagles.
Maryville will return home to Boydson Baird Gymnasium on Jan. 9, as they host USA South Athletic Conference foe LaGrange College. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
