Box Score The Maryville College Scots overcame an 11-point deficit in the first half to knock off previously unbeaten Emory University, 85-68, on Saturday afternoon.
Maryville's Madison Maples scored 28 points, while Lauren Biliter added 21 as the Scots pulled off the comeback in a big way in Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
The Eagles gained an 11-point advantage, 34-23, with 4:03 remaining in the second quarter off a Fran Sweeney 3-pointer. Maryville used an 11-2 run to end the half, as Biliter knocked down a trey with 46 seconds remaining.
The Scots trailed, 36-34 at the break, before going on a run during the third quarter. Maryville used a 9-0 run to open that quarter, as Allyson Friermuth game MC the lead for good with an old-fashioned 3-point play just 41 second into the third quarter.
The Orange and Garnet held a 10-point lead, 56-46 at the end of the third quarter as they outscored Emory, 22-10, in the third stanza.
With 6:23 left, the Eagles pulled to within four, 61-57, before Maryville would take control again. Another old-fashioned trey by Freiermuth spurred the Scots to an 11-2 run again. The Scots knocked off the previously 6-0 Emory squad, 85-68.
Maryville (4-2) shot an astonishing 49.2 percent (30-of-61) from the floor, while sinking 11 treys with a 40.7 clip. Maples led Maryville with 28 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block to her credit, while she went 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Biliter had 21 points while going 3-of-6 from long range. She had six assists, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks for Maryville.
Freiermuth had 15 points with nine rebounds, while Amber Hudgens added eight points, three rebounds, two assists and a block off the bench. Mindy Brackins had seven points off the bench, while Haley Talbott added three. Brittany Johnson and Rachel Hawn each had two points, while Hawn had six boards and Johnson, three steals.
Emory (6-1) saw Ashley Oldshue score 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor. She had eight rebounds, an assist and a block. Shellie Kaniut had 11 points, while Lindsey Tse had nine.
Maryville held Emory to a 35.7 percent outing (25-of-70), while they bucketed five treys on a 26.3 percent clip.
Emory out-rebounded Maryville, 40-38, as they deposited 20 second-chance points on 16 offensive boards.
Maryville will travel to Oglethorpe University on Saturday, Dec. 10. Tipoff against the Stormy Petrels will be at 4 p.m.
