Box Score The Maryville College baseball team used a six RBI performance by senior designated hitter Chris Ervin to post their 26th victory of the season. The Scots defeated Centre College in their final home game of the season by the score of 17-5 on Tuesday evening.
Centre touched MC starter for a pair of runs on four hits in the first inning. An RBI sacrifice fly by catcher Zack Montgomery and an RBI single by Trevor Brewer gave the Colonels a 2-0 lead.
The Scots countered with a trio of unearned runs taking advantage of a pair of Centre miscues. Key RBIs by Chris Ervin with a single to left center and a sacrifice fly by Sam Jokerst put Maryville up 3-2 after one inning.
The Scots added a pair of runs in the second inning with bases loaded walks to Zack Blonder and Brendan Lawler.
A two-out RBI double by Logan Jenkins lifted Maryville to a 6-2 advantage in the third inning before Tyler Bigler walked with the bases loading making the score 7-2.
Centre pulled to 7-4 in the fifth on a pair of unearned runs. A Trevor Brewer single up the middle gave the Colonels their fourth run.
MC's Chris Ervin deposited a three-run homerun, his fifth dinger of the season, to give MC a 10-4 lead after five complete innings.
Blonder was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth bringing the 13th run across the plate. Ervin doubled down the left field line to score a pair making the score 14-4.
In the seventh, senior catcher Jacob Frost laced his first career home run over the Scotland Yard left field wall to make the score 15-4. Senior outfielder Dan Oaklief stroked a sacrifice fly to drive home Clifton Dempsey for MC's 16th run.
Tyler Bigler lined a sacrifice fly in the eighth to score pinch runner Caleb Adams for the Scots final run.
Bleu Butcher (2-0) earned the win on the mound after scattering four hits over four innings. Five additional hurlers, Austin Delozier, Jeremy Haggerty, Nick McClendon, Sean Holton, and Zack May held the Colonels to only five hits over the final five innings.
Maryville's 15-hit attack was paced by Chris Ervin (4-for-6, 6 RBI) and Clifton Dempsey (3-for-4, 4 runs scored). Jacob Frost, Logan Jenkins, and Sam Jokerst each added a pair of hits.
The Scots (26-13) will travel to the USA South Athletic Conference tournament in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Thursday and will face No.5 seeded Methodist University. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
