Box Score The Maryville College women's soccer squad fell in their second-consecutive USA South match on Saturday night, as the Piedmont Lions took the conference contest, 3-1.
Maryville's Kaitlyn Kennedy cut the score to 2-1 in the second half, but a late goal by Piedmont would put the match out of reach, 3-1.
The loss marks Maryville's fifth-straight loss, which ties as the second-longest in the women's soccer program history. The Scots lost five straight to start the 2003 season, as only a nine-loss streak in 1988 –Maryville's first soccer season – bests the mark.
The Scots outshot Piedmont 12-9, as each team had five shots on goal.
Sarah Wickman had three shots to lead Maryville, as Gabby Bilstrom, Natasha Enrique and Kennedy had two shots each. Kennedy posted both on goal, scoring Maryville's goal.
For the Lions, it was Samantha Ishee with two shots – each on goal, and a goal for Piedmont. Erin Bright went had one goal and one assist to lead the Lions in scoring.
Piedmont struck first, as Samantha Ishee scored at the 22:05 mark. Megan Hatfield was credited with the assist from the left, as Piedmont led 1-0 early on with a goal in the lower left.
The Lions would take that 1-0 lead to the half, before striking just 2:29 into the second half.
Cassidy Reich found Erin Bright on a long pass, as Bright slipped the ball past Maryville's Mandy Marshall into the lower right of the goal. The lions led 2-0 early in the second half.
Kennedy would add the Scots' lone goal of the match in the 57th minute of action. Casey Gentile found Kennedy with a cross, as Kennedy found the back of the net with a header into the corner.
However, Bright would help to put the match out of reach with just 1:54 left in the match. She found Castles with a pass from the middle, as Castles went one-on-one with the goalie for the third goal of the afternoon, as Piedmont would take the win, 3-1.
Maryville will take a week off, before going on a two-day USA South road trip. The Scots will travel to LaGrange College on Friday, Sept. 23 for a 6:30 p.m. match, before facing Huntingdon at 8 p.m. EST, 7 p.m. CST.
