Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team extended their winning streak to eight with a 68-40 win over Wesleyan College (GA) in Macon, Georgia on Saturday evening.
The Scots dominated in the post with Rachel Hawn scoring a game-high 16 points in 25 minutes while Allyson Freiermuth finished with a double-double consisting of 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. The duo combined for a 12-for-20 shooting effort and 17 collective boards.
MC forced 15 Wolves turnovers while their pressure and intensity permitted only a 24% shooting effort (14-for-58) from the USA South hosts.
Maryville out rebounded Wesleyan 46-35 and finished hitting 44% from the floor (27-for-62).
Wesleyan (1-14, 0-7 USA South) was led by Taylor Thigpen's 12 points while Breyonna Raymond poured in 11 points off the bench.
Maryville 12-3, 7-0 USA South) remains atop the USA South Western Division standings with the victory. Helping Hawn and Freiermuth's effort in the paint was the perimeter attack of Haley Talbott, Lauren Biliter, and Madison Maples. Talbott dropped three treys to finish with 12 points while Biliter was 5-for-11 from the floor with a dozen points. Maples also dropped three from beyond the arc for 11 points. Biliter was also strong attacking the boards with seven rebounds.
MC will now prepare for next weekend when they host LaGrange and Huntingdon Friday and Saturday. The Scots will tip-off with LaGrange on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before hosting the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday in Maryville's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
