Maryville falls to No.11 Trinity (Texas) 4-2

The Maryville College baseball team challenged defending NCAA Division III national champion No.11 Trinity University (Texas) in Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday morning. The Scots limited the Tiger's to only six hits in the 4-2 defeat but a trio of MC errors proved costly throughout the challenge.

Trinity got on the scoreboard in the third when shortstop Zachary Oretsky recorded an RBI infield single.

The Scots evened the score in the fourth when rightfielder Andrew Henry doubled down the leftfield line scoring centerfielder Derek Hurt.

The Tigers rallied in the bottom of the inning for a run when leftfielder Rafe Chaumette doubled to center field scoring Joey Pecoraro.

Trinity took advantage of a MC miscue in the fifth when Jake Martin scored an unearned run on a Blake Frampton single up the middle to make the score 3-1.

Maryville closed the gap to 3-2 with an RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth from Bryce Redaja scoring Henry.

The Tigers tacked on an insurance run in the eighth touching the plate on a throwing error by the Scots' catcher.

Trinity's Kevin Flores earned the win on the mound allowing only four hits in 5.1 innings of work while striking out five. Chris Tate earned the save with a pair of scoreless and hitless innings to close the game.

Maryville's Evan Heffner suffered the loss after tossing 3.2 innings, allowing three hits and a pair of earned runs. Jordan Norton was strong in relief with 4.1 innings. He allowed three hits and no earned runs while striking out four.

Trinity's offense was paced by Rafe Chaumette's 3-for-3 afternoon while Maryville's five hit effort was led by Derek Hurt and Andrew Henry who each went 2-for-4.

The Scots (1-1) will challenge Millsaps College at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening and will conclude their weekend swing to Mississippi on Sunday against Texas-Tyler.
