Box Score As Maryville College celebrated the life of Kay Yow raising over $600 for her foundation, the Scots women pushed their winning streak to 12 with a 61-44 victory over USA South foe Agnes Scott College on Friday evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
MC out-paced the visiting Scotties 41-19 in the first half, shooting 75% (9-for-12) from the floor including an amazing 72% from beyond the arc (5-for-7) in the first quarter. At the intermission, Haley Talbott and Madison Maples each dropped three treys for nine points apiece. Lauren Biliter dished out four assists while bringing down six of MC's 18 boards.
Agnes Scott out-scored and out-rebounded MC in each period in the second half to close the gap. Garis Grant poured in 11 of the Scottie's 15 points in the third quarter with Maryville only shooting 30% and adding a dozen to their game total. The final period ended with Agnes Scott shooting 45% and out-pacing the Scots once again 10-8.
Agnes Scott (2-14, 1-9 USA South) was led by Grant's game-high 19 points on 9-of-18 shooting. She completed the double-double effort with a game-high 10 rebounds. Jalexis Teemer added a dozen points for the Scotties.
Maryville (19-3, 11-0 USA South) remained in first place in the USA South western division behind Haley Talbott's 12-point evening, each point coming from beyond the arc. Madison Maples finished with nine while Libby Gardner and Allyson Freiermuth each added eight points. Lauren Biliter and Amber Hudgens paced MC on the boards with six and five rebounds respectively.
MC Head Coach Darrin Travillian challenged the fans to raise over $500 for the Kay Yow foundation throughout the week. The fans stepped up with a $600 total and a grateful Coach Travillian took a trio of pies from his seniors to celebrate the generosity of those in attendance.
Maryville will host Wesleyan College (GA) on Saturday afternoon with a scheduled 4:0 p.m. tip-off. Before the tip, Coach Travillian and his staff will honor their trio of seniors. Mindy Brackins, Lecretia Robbins, and Allyson Freiermuth will be honored before their final home regular season game on Randy Lambert Court.
