Maryville College hosted Johnson University on Monday afternoon in a men's and women's tennis match, as the Scots split with the Royals on the afternoon.
MC's women took their first victory of the 2018-19 campaign with a 7-2 defeat of Johnson, while the men's squad fell in a 7-1 loss. One of the men's matches went unfinished in the non-conference bout.
In the women's competition, the Scots saw only one singles match defeat. That match went to extra sets, as the Royals took the No. 3-seeded singles match with a 10-8 tie-breaker score.
McKennah Francis won in the top-seeded women's match over Hannah Hamm, 6-4, 6-1, while Kayla Zimmerman took 6-1, 6-1 victories over Madison Buchanan. Anastasia Dunn continued her tear from her freshman campaign with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Annalise McDonald, as Kaleigh Basilio narrowly missed the double bagel with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Savannah Bain defeated Olive Anderson, 6-1, 6-2, as the Scots finished singles play with a 5-1 lead.
Dunn and Zimmerman took an 8-2 win over Hamm and McDonald in the first-seeded doubles bout, as Dickinson and Francis won 8-4 over Emily Allen and Iris Loveday. MC's Savannah Mantooth and Savannah Stewart fell to Buchanan and Keehner, 8-0.
On the men's side of competition, Cole Stinson took the only victory for the Scots. He defeated Dalton Sauer, 6-1, 6-1, in the third-seeded singles competition. Austin Smith narrowly missed a top-ranked singles victory over Carson Byington, as Byington took the victory with a tie-breaker score of 10-7.
MC had a pair of defeats by retirement, as one match went unfinished in the 7-1 loss.
