Maryville College women's tennis moved to 2-0 on the young 2019-20 season on Friday night, as they opened Homecoming with a 9-0 sweep of Johnson University.
The Scots battled for their first sweep of the season, after defeating Emory & Henry College, 5-4, earlier this year.
Anastasia Dunn and Kayla Zimmerman remained stellar in the top-seeded doubles position, as the duo downed Madi Buchanan and Olive Anderson by a score of 8-1. Kaleigh Basilio and Melanie Kowalewski knocked off Amelisa McDonald and Iris Loveday, 8-2, while Eliza Cheshire and Carolyne Koella earned the doubles sweep.
The pair defeated Keisha McIntyre and Brooke Hilemon by a score of 8-2 to give the Scots an early 3-0 advantage.
Maryville would go on to sweep doubles play, as Zimmerman downed Buchanan, 6-2, 6-2, in the top-seeded singles bout. Kowalewski defeated McDonald, 6-1, 6-2, while Basilio knocked off Loveday, 6-2, 6-1.
Dunn downed McIntyre in the fourth-seeded spot, 6-1, 6-3, while Koella earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lexi McAmis. Chesire rounded out the scoring with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kaylin Rittenbemy.
Maryville will have a day off, before they wrap up Homecoming 2019 with a match against Milligan College. First serve is slated for the MC Tennis Courts on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 1:00 p.m.
