Scots use a dozen hits, seven stolen bases in 6-0 victory of Wesleyan (Ga.)

Maryville College raked in a dozen hits on Saturday afternoon, as the Scots earned their third-straight USA South victory with a 6-0 win over Wesleyan College (Ga.).

The Scots' 12 hits were complimented by seven stolen bases on the afternoon, as Katlyn Smith pitched a gem inside the circle.

Smith earned the complete-game shutout, as the sophomore allowed just three hits. She struck out nine and walked just three to move to 8-2 overall.

Offensively, it was Alexus Murray that led the way. The senior catcher was 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI, as Essence Strambler, Christina White and Ashton Hayden had big performances at the plate.

Maryville College struck first in the top of the second inning. Strambler laced a leadoff double, before the left fielder advanced to third on a Morgan Brewer groundout. Hayden earned the RBI with a single, before White singled herself. Hayden scored on an error, before Taylor Campbell tallied an RBI with a single for a 3-0 Scots' lead.

Maryville plated two more runs in the top of the third, as again Strambler led things off with a double. She advanced to third on a Brewer groundout, before Hayden's sacrifice fly to right plated the left junior. White singled before stealing both second and third, as Alexus Murray's RBI single plated the right fielder for a 5-0 Scots' advantage.

A Murray single and three-straight walks added a sixth run for MC in the top of the sixth. Following Murray's leadoff single, Campbell, Kylie Canova and Strambler each drew walks. Strambler was credited the RBI, giving MC a 6-0 lead going to the seventh.

Maryville (11-6, 3-0 USA South) was led by Murray who added four stolen bases to her credit on the day. Strambler was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and a pair of doubles, while White went 3-for-5 with two runs. Hayden went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI, while Campbell was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Reid Ballard was 1-for-4 at the plate.

Wesleyan College (6-9, 1-2) was led by Jillian Crosby who was 2-for-3, as the shortstop, pitcher combo had a pair of the Wolves three hits. She struck out five in 4.1 innings, while allowing just two hits and one earned run for the Scots.
