Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball unit posted their fifth consecutive victory on Sunday with a 76-42 USA South road victory over Wesleyan College (Ga.) in Macon, Georgia.
Five Fighting Scots posted double-digit scoring while MC outrebounded the Wolves 56-33 on the afternoon.
Maryville's Shelby Hix finished with a double-double after sinking a team-high 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting while bringing down a game-high 12 rebounds. Freshman Courtney Carruthers tallied 14 points off the bench on 5-of-14 shooting. Elsa Eckenrod had a complete game with 13 points and eight rebounds while adding three assists and a pair of steals. Hannah Jones was strong in the post with 12 points on 50-percent shooting while grabbing seven boards. Klaire Varney dished out four assists and forced seven steals while sinking 10 points. Abbi Joseph and Holland Jerrolds helped MC dominate the boards with nine and six rebounds each respectively.
"It was a great team win today," stated Maryville College Head Coach Darrin Travillian. "The girls were very unselfish and worked to get each other some good looks. I thought we had great contributions from everyone today."
The Scots finished shooting over 37-percent from the floor while 23 of their 28 baskets recorded assists during the league win. MC's fierce defense forced 27 turnovers and held Wesleyan to a 31-percent shooting effort from the floor.
Maryville (13-4, 6-2 USA South) will prepare to host a pair of key USA South challenges next weekend. The Scots will welcome LaGrange College to the Cooper Athletic Center at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25 before they host Huntingdon College at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26.
