Box Score Maryville College saw five players score double figures on Saturday afternoon, as the Scots defeated USA South foe Agnes Scott College, 98-25, inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
The Scots followed a double-double effort from Shelby Hix and a game-high 17 points from Courtney Carruthers to remain unbeaten in conference action this year. MC currently holds a 6-0 mark in both regular season and USA South play.
The Orange and Garnet blistered the nets with a 58.3-percent effort, shooting 42-of-72 for the game. Inside the arc, MC shined, posting a 31-of-46 mark which was a 67.3 percent average.
That shooting saw the Scots turn 34 Scotties turnovers into 45 points, as Maryville bucketed 60 points in the paint and outscored Agnes Scott 31-0 in fast-break points.
Agnes Scott (0-8) came out of the gate firing, jumping to a 6-0 lead early on 3-pointers by Shay Sweat and Jasmine Thompson. Maryville would quickly tie it, however, on a pair of jumpers by Hix and a lay-in by Wandell.
The Scotties rallied to tie it at 10-all at the 4:34 mark, before MC rattled off nine unanswered to end the quarter with a 19-10 lead.
Over the final 14:34 of the first half, Maryville posted a 37-2 run that included a 29-0 march over 11:15. A lay-up in the paint by Sweat gave the Scotties their only bucket of the second quarter, as MC's Carruthers shot 4-of-4 with a 3-pointer for nine points in the quarter.
Maryville held a 47-12 lead at the half, only adding to that advantage in the third and fourth quarters. The Scots shot 61.8 percent in the second half, including a 53.8-percent effort with seven treys from beyond the arc. That included a 12-of-15 mark from the floor in the fourth quarter.
Both Wandell and Hannah Jones scored 10 points in the second half, while Hix added six assists.
Hix led the Scots with a double-double of 15 points and 11 assists on the day, as MC assisted on 35 of 42 made buckets. She added four steals and three rebounds, as she shot 50 percent on the afternoon.
Carruthers led all scorers with 17 points and a trio of treys, as the sophomore added three assists, two rebounds and a steal. Jones added 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting, while she pulled down four rebounds – all offensive. She added three blocks, two assists and a steal on the day.
Wandell had 14 points on a 7-of-10 effort, as she added nine rebounds – four of those offensive. She had a pair of blocks and steals with an assist, as Elsa Eckenrod added 13 points and five rebounds.
Audrey Sanders had eight points on a 2-of-3 effort from beyond the arc, while Jordan Heifner had a complete game with eight points, six assists, five steals and two rebounds. Meredith Ward and Hannah Seals had three points each, as Seals added five assists to Ward's three. Hayley Harmon added twp oints, while Holland Jerrolds had four rebounds, three steals, a block and an assist.
Maryville outrebounded the Scotties, 42-20.
Agnes Scott saw Sweat lead the way with 12 points and three steals, while Ericka McLeod added a team-leading five rebounds.
Maryville College will look next to a road trip to Brevard College on Feb. 12-13. Tipoff for Friday's game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
