Box Score Cronk Notches First Double-Double
MACON, Ga. – The Scots went down to Georgia and concluded their trip with an 81-35 triumph over the Wesleyan Wolves.
The victory saw Maryville make a season-high 11 3-pointers and dish out a season-best 20 assists. Defense was also key as the Wolves were held to the lowest field-goal percentage and the lowest score of any Scots opponent this season.
Domination was the name of the game for Maryville in the first quarter as the Scots did not give up any points in the first 10 minutes of action. The visiting team posted 19 unanswered points to push out to the early lead.
Wesleyan was able to find positive offensive output in the second quarter after the Scots pushed their run to 24-0. Both teams scored an even 21 points in the quarter which kept Maryville's lead at 19 going into the half.
The rest of the game continued to trend towards the Scots as they outscored the Wolves 41-14 down the stretch. The win moved Maryville to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in USA South action. Wesleyan fell to 0-12 with the loss and 0-6 in league play.
More Personal Bests
Hailey Cronk impressed with a 13 point and 10 rebound double-double. The double-double was the first of her career and her point and rebound totals were career highs.
Anna Kate Bechman also found herself putting up career-best numbers in points with nine and tying her best mark in rebounds with three. Bechman set the rebounds mark in Saturday's tilt at Agnes Scott.
Two more Scots either tied or set new career marks in the contest as Courtney Carruthers and Madison Williams each set new bests. Williams tied her high in points with 10 and also dished out a career-high five assists while Carruthers tied her rebounding best with six boards.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Maryville played a balanced game as five of the seven players available scored in double figures. The team also spread the rebounds around as every Scot grabbed at least three or more boards.
The team effort did not go unnoticed to Maryville head coach Darrin Travillian.
"I'm proud of my team this weekend," Travillian said. "After a ton of starts and stops, we played pretty well for two days. Obviously, conditioning and continuity will play factors in how we progress, but this was a good start. It was definitely nice to see rebounding, assists, and scoring spread throughout the roster today."
The Scots remain on the road for their next contest as the Mountaineers of Berea College await on Wednesday. Berea sits at 15-3 overall and are a perfect 9-0 in USA South games. Maryville will look to avenge the early 67-59 loss to the Mountaineers.
