Maryville Defeats Ferrum 5-3
KNOXVILLE – Maryville swept doubles action and posted two singles wins in a 5-3 takedown of Ferrum.
Kyle Shaver and Cooper Newman earned the No. 1 doubles win for the Scots 8-4. Keshawn Haynes and Seth Green took the No. 2 win in doubles action 8-2, while Jonah Hedges and Ben Wyrick won the final doubles match by a score of 8-7.
"I am really proud of the team's effort today, especially in doubles," said Maryville head coach Doug Corbett. "We want to pride ourselves in being a strong doubles team and we took a step in the right direction today. Shout out to Ben Wyrick for clinching the match in singles."
Wyrick won that match-clinching No. 4 singles contest by scores of 6-4 and 6-1. Shaver picked up the other solo win for Maryville with marks of 6-0 and 6-1 in the No. 1 spot.
The Scots take to USA South action next Saturday when they host Piedmont. The Lions travel to Maryville for a 2 p.m. first serve.
