Johnson Takes Match Over Scots 7-2
KNOXVILLE – The result between Maryville and Johnson on Monday may have matched the one from their clash in the fall, but there is more to the score.
"Today was a good chance to see how much we have improved since our first Fall match against Johnson," Scots' head coach Doug Corbett said. "Ironically the overall match scores were the same for the men and women, but there was clear improvement."
Elizabeth Shwaiko was a large part of that improvement for Maryville. Shwaiko and doubles partner Eliza Cheshire won the No. 2 match 7-5 over the Royals. In singles play, Shwaiko won the No. 4 match by marks of 6-1 and 6-2.
Abby Diggs took two more game wins in singles action than she had in the fall match, while earning another four game wins in the No. 2 doubles spot with Melanie Kowalewski.
"Elizabeth Shwaiko had a fantastic day in particular winning both of her matches," said Corbett. "We come away encouraged and are excited for a big weekend coming up!"
The Scots host the final two home matches of the year this weekend. Berea is on campus Friday for a 4:30 p.m. match and Agnes Scott will take on Maryville at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
