Scots Fall 9-0; Play at Tornados in Tourney
BREVARD, N.C. – Maryville and Brevard met for the first of two matches, with Brevard posting a 9-0 victory to wrap up the regular season.
Tuesday's decision means the Tornados host the Scots in next week's USA South Women's Tennis Tournament First Round match. Date and time have not yet been finalized.
Despite the competitive disadvantage from Maryville's five-player lineup, the Scots played tough in doubles and then took two of the five singles matches into a third-set tiebreaker.
In doubles, Eliza Cheshire and Elizabeth Shwaiko were a tough out at No. 2 after dropping an 8-6 decision. Melanie Kowalewski and Abby Diggs went down 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. In singles, Diggs at No. 3 carried her match to the third-set tiebreaker and lost 10-3 after winning the opening set 6-3. Abby Smither at No. 5 singles took her third-set tiebreaker to extras before falling 11-9 after she had claimed the opening set 6-1.
