Elizabeth Shwaiko came through with a pair of victories Sunday to pace the Scots in their season-opening match at Randolph.
The host WildCats prevailed 7-2.
Shwaiko teamed with
Abby Diggs for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles. Shwaiko then produced Maryville's lone triumph in singles with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win at No. 3.
"It was a tough battle today with several close matches," Maryville head coach
Doug Corbett said. "Elizabeth was the team MVP today, coming away with two wins! I'm very happy for her and Diggs because they work hard and are very responsive to our coaching day in and day out.
"We will learn from this match and improve as the season progresses."
The Scots host a pair of midweek matches. Maryville is home Wednesday against Pfeiffer in a 3 p.m. start, and then they take on Brevard on Thursday at 2 p.m. Both matches are at the MC Tennis Courts.
