EAST RIDGE, TENN. – Maryville opened its 2023 season with a strong showing against Sewanee at Camp Jordan on Friday night.
The Scots lost 19-43 but had three athletes establish new personal records on the day. Head Coach Kaitlyn Carringer-Adams was impressed with what she saw on the course from her athletes.
"Today's race was a great start to the season and a good step towards our goals with 7 PRs overall (men's and women's)," Carringer-Adams said. "This is just the beginning of the season and I already saw lots of growth and improvement from these runners, not just as individuals, but also as a team."
Isabelle Juda was the high finisher on the day for MC, placing second in the 5,000m run with a time of 21:29.49. She finished behind first-place Emma Grace Hendrickson who ran a 20:50.49 to secure the top spot.

Shelby Armintrout, and
Madison Smith each recorded new personal bests in this meet. Buckley finished eighth with a time of 23:47.58, Armintrout ran a 26:53.92 to finish 17th, and Smith finished 22nd, running a 32:43.57.
Anastasia Lamar also competed in the race, finishing 20th with a time of 27:39.51.
"I am very proud of the effort and especially the teamwork at today's race and can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds for us," Carringer-Adams said.
Maryville's next meet is the Walters State Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 9 in Morristown, Tennessee.
