MARYVILLE – Weather forced a three-day delay, but Maryville College was able to host its annual cross country invitational here Monday afternoon.

The Scots finished second after three Maryville runners crossed the line among the top 10 placements.

Megan Shinn clocked a PR time of 27 minutes and 11.7 seconds to lead the team with a second-place result. Isabelle Juda finished fifth in her final home meet, posting a time of 30:01.4. And Madison Smith recorded a 10th-place outcome after clocking her PR time of 35:56.7. RaeEllen Coffey ran the 6K campus course in a PR of 38:46.0 to finish 11th, and Kaitlyn Smith rounded out the Maryville scoring in 12th with a PR of 38:49.7.

"I don't think I've ever been more proud of my team than I was today," Maryville's Madison Smith said. "This has been the hardest course yet, and even under the circumstances, we still managed to finish the race and I am just proud of our team."

Isabelle Juda

Pellissippi State won team honors just ahead of Maryville, and Roane State's Kailee Rossman was the top individual finisher with a time of 26:18.3.

"Despite having to postpone the race and teams canceling due to the weather and new date, through it all, I am very glad that we are safe and had the opportunity to run today," Scots head coach Kaitlyn Carringer-Adams said. "Our course is known for being on the tougher side, but today's focus was to work on confidence. In cross country, there will be circumstances thrown our way, tough courses, and no race is the same, but we can control our attitudes and confidence, which goes along with our team motto that confidence is contagious.

"All things considered, everyone gave it their all today and I am glad we were able to have one last home race for our seniors."

Carringer-Adams recognized Juda after the race as the lone senior.

The Scots are back in action Saturday at the Mountain Goat Invitational, hosted by Sewanee. Start time is 10 a.m. Central time.
