MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Maryville College men's tennis team wrapped up a competitive weekend at the ITA Regional, hosted at Rhodes College, with several impressive showings across both singles and doubles draws.
Day 1 (Oct. 3) saw the Scots take the court against strong regional opponents. In singles play, Field Myatt earned a straight-sets victory over Berry's Lucas Duckstein (6–2, 6–1) before dropping a close B Draw match to Centre's Chase Turley in a third-set tiebreak (6–4, 2–6, 10–5). Luka Romano also recorded a solid win, taking down Centre's Anderson Gosnell (6–4, 6–1) before falling to Emory's Sammy Nieder. Sergio Balsamo split his matches, defeating Covenant's Zakhar Lanskyi (6–1, 6–1) before narrowly losing a super tiebreak to Ozarks' Ryan Rosalin (3–6, 6–3, 11–9).
In doubles, Romano and Balsamo paired up for a strong victory over Oglethorpe (8–6) before bowing out to Asbury. The duos of Myatt/Meyer and Smith/Fitzsimmons battled in tight contests but came up short against nationally competitive opposition from Covenant, Emory, and Berry.
Day 2 (Oct. 4) brought another highlight for Maryville as Field Myatt continued his strong run, picking up two more singles wins — first over Jacob Eldridge of Covenant (6–1, 6–1) and then a come-from-behind victory against Jon Titan Nguyen of Millsaps (4–6, 7–5, 10–3). Jonathan Crane fought hard in a three-set battle before falling to Asbury's Kevin Rhyne (7–6, 2–6, 10–8).
Overall, the weekend showcased Maryville's growing depth and resilience against top SAAÂ and CCS programs.Â
