BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Maryville defeated Bridgewater to earn their first victory of the year. The Scots took victories in the doubles point and on courts 1,2,3,4, & 6 to claim the 6-1 victory.
Alyssa Smith and
Abby Diggs again won their doubles set, this time in the two spot, defeating the pair of Raea Crabill and Emma Staton from Bridgewater 6-4. Smith also won her singles set at the two position, defeating Jolexie Whetzel 7-5, 6-2. Diggs was shaken up in her singles match which she dropped to Devon Wichael in three sets. She is expected to be fine.
Senior
Elizabeth Shwaiko picked up a singles win at the #1 position, defeating Sarah Slagle 6-4, 6-4. Freshman
Jasmine Muecke won her match at the #3 spot, her first career victory, 6-3 and 6-4.
Josie McRae and
Calliana Kondolios won their doubles set together at the #3 position 6-3, securing the doubles point for the Scots. The duo also won their singles matches as well. McRae was at the #6 spot where she won 6-1, 6-2 over Charlotte Weaver, and Kondolios won 6-3, 6-4 over Emma Staton.
Roanoke comes in to the match having lost on Wednesday to Sweet Briar College 7-0, their only match so far this year.
